Sri Lanka Rice and Curry vol.1

Sri Lankans love a home cooking,  and everyone cooks their home traditional Rice and Curry.

Everyday I was thinking of what I eat for a dinner.." I had Rice and Curry last night so I try something

different tonight."  Then I found out myself ordering Rice and Curry.  Each night I went to different

restaurants..why not?

At local eating places they make a curry very very hot and spicy which is nice but almost can make fire in a mouth.

By the end of my stay in Sri Lanka, I had my favourite curry shop and not only a curry but their Kottu roti  was so yummy and I sometimes miss it!.

My Sri Lanka Trip

There are fruits trees and vegetables growing in their gardens.  When it is ready, you just pick them up.

I think this is rich.  They live with what they need basically and feel happy about it.

The average earning is maybe the one fifth of our earning , so it is not easy for them to go abroad and

travel around.. Electricity has risen up to 50 to 60%, this is very expensive for them.  It is very hot most
of the time, so the tourists use the air conditioner if they live in a house, that is expensive.

The concrete house absorb the hot air from outside, and this is what they use for a house material these days.  The mud box( bricks) is cheaper and cooler. I don't understand why more people use concrete to build the house.  Not only Sri Lankans but we all need to learn sustainable life style.

I need 100mouths and stomaches ...Kuala Lumpur

This year 2013 I spend more time in Sri Lanka and Malaysia than in Australia.
I just came back from there and  my friend in KL searches the restaurants and cafes whenever she has a time,  so we cruised into " Purple Cane Tea Restaurants" one of the best I have ever dinned.

The green stuff is not a green tea, I don't know what is called but the flavour  spread into your mouth softly.  The taste is not bitter at all.

We made a excellent choice of the foods here.

Freshwater-Sydney northern beaches

A person who lives in Eastern suburbs rarely comes to the northern beaches.                                         I didn't come here for surfing yet it was excited to be in this part of Sydney.

Vientiane , cafe and massage

If you go to Vientiane,  I recommend you to go to the cafe and the massage!
Specially it is a massage heaven.  You can have any type of the massage- Full Body, Face, Oil Massage, Traditional Lao Massage ( like Thai massage ),  Expensive Facial treatment, etc...

I indulged myself in 2hours aroma oil massage, and if I have this kind of massage in Sydney, it costs at least $ 150.00.  I can have 15 times massage in Vientiane with this money. Unlike in Sydney they massage you front and back of the body and limbs, which is a total massage and I liked it.  You can leave the undies and they are all masseuse, so you won't be shy too much ( if you are woman ).

It has a Cafe Culture.  Lao coffee is amazingly good, and the Lao style coffee is tasty and inexpensive.
They serve Italian style cappucino and latte and quite sophisticated cakes and sweets.
Of course it is a tourist price but yes it relaxes me to sit down and watch the people pass by.

This restaurant was always full, this is the best food I had In Laos. Deep fried  Mekong seaweed with sesame and tomyum style prawn & vegi soup

Lao local food

Wondering around the tourist area day and night, I tasted local foods.  the best one was  a chicken noodle at tiny wheel stall run by a middle aged aunty nearby Mekong river night market.  I spotted it because people were queueing up to buy.  One young lady in a queue helped me to buy with a smile,
and chicken noodle was superb but very hot, it was tasty but amazingly no MSG added, though Asians can't help using MSG for every foods.

looks yummy but super yuk!

Memory of Lao - Vientian

Today I was watching the photos taken in Laos in this January.  After Sri Lanka I visited there just for
a few days.  I was just stunned..for what?...I felt I wondered into  Northern country  of somewhere....     ( though I never been there)
Don't get me wrong ... I am talking about its flatness of the atmosphere, no smiles on people's face,
and what amazed me most was that the pedestrians had a human right here!  In Asia, India or Sri Lanka
people behind the wheels never concerned about the pedestrians, they just drive as if they don't have a speed meter.
But in Vientian, things are different, Here, Car is coming ~ from far~ and still far way ..15 seconds past....still ... like that, the speed limit for vehicle is 50km, can you believe it!?!

Anyway, the statue of Buddha and the statue in the temples look bit scary, some looked like alien.
Sorry...Buddha  I am not insulting you... just little bit different from what I know...

Finally I knew that Lao people were very shy, once I get to know the person they smile back to you from the second time.

Autumn in Sydney but feel Summer really!

Summer is still hanging around Sydney, there were so many variety of people on the beach side.
Couples, family, retires but not many surfers...

The swell hit 6 ft plus and because of the rough ocean, Bronte pool was even closed.

Not only a beach activity today, there was a wedding ceremony at Franciscan church near by.

One of my friend, Ms Marui in KL told me that she was going to have Durin cheese cake at Secret Recipe.

At the same time I was thinking to have Durian ice cream in Sydney.

But it was double indulgence at the end...

Who can resist not buying Durian Pancake when you are at China Town??  I can't....

Deadly attack by blue bottles

One of those days..when the north warm current brings in heaps of blueys ......
They cannot swim  but cruise with the high tide current, I know they don't mean to harm swimmwers
and surfers...

One swimmer called " Help ", and I realized several blue bottles were around.  He was wrapped around with a long tentacle and surfers  including me raised an arm to gave a signal to lifeguards.

It took for awhile when the lifeguards finally saw what was happening.

I kept surfing afterwards, but.... bastard blueys caught my both legs, arms.....

The best thing you can do is " Do not rub  just pinch the tentacle away with your fingernails "
" Wash but not rubbing "
Then , here it is, TEA TREE OIL  ...This is a natural antiseptic .. every Australians have this at home.

this is a dead one  that is why you cannot see long long tentacle

I always carry when travelling,too

What I saw today

Walking to the jungle side is closer than going to the beach.  Step by step my eyes catch things on the streets.  Valentine flowers...lady sitting  at Kid's cancer donation desk.....confy innocent baby on  a pram.....Paintings ( not graffiti ) on the wall of houses........

Walking in the jungle...then the moist fresh air brushed gently against my cheek...

Walking out of the jungle,  I was attracted to this house..oh to the fox...knock knock knock!?!

Good food

I rarely eat  eggs.  But sometimes  I really  feel having eggs.  That is fine! Let's eat them..
My fav. is poached egg, and look at this eggs..perfect?  yes...I cooked very well of course...

When you cook poached egg, you can prove the quality and freshness.
Package of the egg says " winners Sydney Royal Easter Show", not mentioning organic grown but
It doesn't matter. They say,

No added hormones or Antibiotics, running and walking in a fields..

I enjoyed this rich sweet taste eggs very much.  Good food!
